ZF Sachs Race Engineering involved in pioneering performances at 24-hours Nrburgring

In Europe痴 largest motorsport festival, the 24-hour race Nrburgring, in 2010 ZF Sachs Race Engineering was involved in two particularly exceptional performances: on overall victory for BMW and on Porsche痴 technological pioneering achievement.

Up to the 22nd hour a race car with innovative hybrid technology led for the first time. Jrg Bergmeister/Richard Lietz/Marco Holzer/Martin Ragginger dominated the long-distance classic, held since 1970, in a Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid till just before the finish. Around the remorseless Nordschleife of the Nrburgring the new design impressively took centre stage. Thanks to hybrid technology the Porsche driver quartet only had to stop once every ten laps in the pits to refuel and therefore less often than its rivals. The Porsche transmitted its power to the rear wheels through a ZF Sachs race clutch.

The BMW factory team secured overall victory. Jrg Mller, Augusto Farfus, Uwe Alzen and Pedro Lamy won the 38th running of the classic in a BMW M3. The Coup from Munich is also equipped with a ZF Sachs race clutch.

Another winner: The Volkswagen factory team. It won the class for cars with alternative power with the Bio Natural Gas powered Scirocco GT24-CNG. The Scirocco is equipped with dampers from Schweinfurt. The German technology company痴 products for suspension and drive were, however not only victorious in the leading teams: No less than 178 of the 248 participants rely on dampers or clutches from Schweinfurt. As a result, 72 per cent of the teams were equipped with ZF Sachs Race Engineering components.

Formula 1: Alonso still on championship trail

Fernando Alonso underlined his Formula 1 World Championship title ambitions at the Monaco Grand Prix. The Spaniard, whose Ferrari is equipped with ZF Sachs Race Engineering clutches, fought through the narrow streets of the principality from the back of the field to claim seventh position. Alonso had to start from the pit lane, because he did not participate in qualifying following an accident in third free practice. In the Drivers Championship the two-time World Champion lies only five points behind the leading Red Bull duo.

Alonso痴 Ferrari team mate Felipe Massa narrowly missed the podium in fourth place. With Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg two other drivers, whose Mercedes-Benz team relies on ZF Sachs dampers, also finished in the points.
