ALMS: Third place for Porsche RS Spyder at Mid-Ohio

Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas gave the petrol direct-injection engine that made its debut in the Porsche RS Spyder a successful maiden result: at the sixth round of the American Le Mans Series at Lexington/Mid-Ohio, they finished sixth overall. The prototype fitted with dampers and a clutch from ZF Sachs Race Engineering fielded by the Penske Racing team clinched victory in the LM P2 class as well. Maassen/Long, Dyson/Smith and Leitzinger/Franchitti were three further Porsches equipped with ZF Sachs high-tech to manage the leap into the top eight. For as much as the third time this season, overall victory went to Lucas Luhr and Marco Werner, who – like their second-placed brand colleagues Rinaldo Capello and Emanuele Pirro – drove the Audi R10 TDI diesel sports car equipped with a clutch from Schweinfurt.

Formula 1: Heidfeld on fourth thanks to recovery

At the tenth Formula 1 race of the season at Hockenheim, Nick Heidfeld impressed with a recovery from the twelfth grid position to a fourth-place finish. Team-mate Robert Kubica, who came seventh, scored two Championship points. Felipe Massa, driving with dampers from Schweinfurt in his Ferrari as well, mounted the podium for as much as the sixth time this season after finishing third. In the team standings the Brazilian, together with Ferrari colleague Kimi Räikkönen, achieved a commanding defence of the lead ahead of BMW Sauber.
