DTM: Surprise winner Christian Vietoris
Round two of the DTM season at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben ended in a huge surprise. After 44 turbulent laps and a tire gamble in the rain, Christian Vietoris in his Mercedes-Benz crossed the finish line in first place – surprisingly, as Mercedes is currently running behind Audi and BMW. The day before, Vietoris had only qualified as the 16th of the 23 DTM drivers. The youngster secured the crucial advantage when he switched to rain tires in the pit lane even before the race started, which gave him an advantage over the other drivers who had to make this change during the race when the rain was getting heavier.
Vietoris was joined on the podium by the two Audi drivers Mike Rockenfeller (2nd place) and Edoardo Mortara. Behind Paul Di Resta (Mercedes-Benz) in fourth place, Augusto Farfus in position five was the best driver of a BMW. All three of the premium manufacturers involved in the DTM, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, rely on high-tech clutches by ZF Friedrichshafen AG.
