WEC: Audi takes Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ World Championships
The ZF equipped customer Audi celebrated winning the Drivers’ World Championship title in the WEC at the penultimate race in Shanghai. A third place was sufficient for Loïc Duval, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish (F/DK/GB) to clinch the World Championship title before the season finale. Their stablemates Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer (CH/D/F) drove the Audi R18 e-tron quattro with start number 1 to victory. The trio fought past the previously leading LMP1 Toyota in the closing laps. This win marked Audi’s first sportscar victory in China and the sixth victory in the seventh race.
In addition to the drivers’ title, the Audi drivers clinched victory in the manufacturers’ classification at the last WEC race at Fuji (J). As a result, the Ingolstadt based company remains the benchmark in the second year of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Toyota finished second with Alexander Wurz and Nicolas Lapierre (A/F). The Japanese manufacturer is also supplied with ZF technology since the start of the season.
