WEC: Audi defends both titles early at Fuji
ZF partner Audi defends the drivers`and the manufacturers’ titles in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) early at Fuji (Japan). Heavy rain at Fuji meant that not a single lap could be completed under the Green Flag. After several attempts to start the race and a total of 16 laps behind the safety car the event was ultimately stopped.
In the end, the leaders of the standings, Loïc Duval/Tom Kristensen/Allan McNish (F/DK/GB), as the best Audi team, took second place overall, their team-mates Marcel Fässler/André Lotterer/Benoît Tréluyer (CH/D/F) were classified in fourth place of the LMP1 category. The drivers’ classification will thus be determined between the two Audi squads at the remaining rounds. Thanks to these positions Audi defended the title in the manufacturers’ classification as well.
Toyota claimed the first victory of the season at their home race with Alexander Wurz/Nicolas Lapierre/Kazuki Nakajima (A/F/J). The Japanese have been a technical partner of ZF since this season as well.

DTM: Timo Glock wins season finale, BMW takes manufacturers’ title
Timo Glock wins the DTM season finale in front of 122,000 spectators (throughout the weekend) at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg. For the ex-Formula 1 driver, this marks the first victory in the DTM. In a thrilling final race of the season, the BMW driver – with rain pouring down some of the time – prevailed with a 2.787-second advantage against Roberto Merhi (Mercedes-Benz) after 41 laps. For the Spaniard Merhi this has been the best DTM result so far as well. Last year’s Champion Bruno Spengler (BMW) was third; the new DTM Champion Mike Rockenfeller (Audi) on finishing in 16th place scored no points for the first time this season.
The manufacturers’ classification was won by BMW ahead of Audi and Mercedes-Benz; in the team classification, Audi Sport Team Phoenix prevailed. All of the three premium manufacturers involved in the DTM, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, rely on clutch high-tech from ZF Friedrichshafen AG.
