DTM: Farfus wins at Zandvoort, Rockenfeller is DTM Champion

Mike Rockenfeller is 2013 DTM Champion. The Audi driver only needed to finish the penultimate round of the season at Zandvoort, the Netherlands, in second place behind his last remaining rival for the title, Augusto Farfus (BMW). The victory is thus of no use to the Brazilian with respect to the fact that Rockenfeller, before the finale at Hockenheim three weeks from now, already has a 26-point advantage, which puts him out of reach.

After 44 laps in front of 41,000 spectators (throughout the weekend) on the dune circuit on the North Sea Coast, Farfus in his BMW M3 DTM had a 1.603-second advantage over Rockenfeller in the Audi RS 5 DTM. On the podium as well and a valuable ‘escort’ for Rockenfeller was Timo Scheider. For ‘Rocky’s’ brand colleague, this marked the first podium finish in 2013.

Fourth place was claimed by Mattias Ekström (also Audi); the best driver of a Mercedes-Benz was Gary Paffett in ninth place. The grand DTM finale will be held at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg from October 18 to 20. All of the three premium manufacturers committed in the DTM, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, rely on clutch high tech from ZF Friedrichshafen AG.
