DTM: Farfus wins, Rockenfeller on course for title

A preliminary decision in the battle for the 2013 DTM title was produced at Oschersleben: Only Mike Rockenfeller (Audi) and Augusto Farfus (BMW) have still got chances of clinching it. In front of 70,500 spectators (throughout the weekend), Farfus with an advantage of 6.298 seconds won round eight of the season in front of Rockenfeller. Christian Vietoris and Robert Wickens (both Mercedes-Benz) and the current Champion Bruno Spengler (BMW) are out of the title race now. Wickens and Spengler collided on track and finished in the last (Wickens) and penultimate place (Spengler). Vietoris, in position 18, missed a points-finish as well.

Alongside the winner Farfus and the runner-up Rockenfeller the podium included pole setter Jamie Green (Audi). For the brand based in Ingolstadt, this was a remarkable DTM race anyway with as many as eight drivers scoring points with the four rings – an unprecedented event. Besides Farfus only Gary Paffett (Mercedes-Benz) managed to clinch points, in sixth place. The DTM will continue in two weeks from now at Zandvoort, the Netherlands, and the DTM season’s finale will be held at the Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg at the end of October. Rockenfeller is tackling the last two races with an advantage of 33 points. All of the premium manufacturers committed in the DTM, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, rely on clutch high-tech from ZF Friedrichshafen AG.
