Formula 1: Räikkönen takes second place in Hungary
In the sweltering heat of Budapest, the ‘iceman’ kept his cool. Kimi Räikkönen took second place in the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Finn whose Formula 1 race car is equipped with clutches from ZF Friedrichshafen AG celebrated his sixth podium position in the tenth race of the season. In the heat battle across 70 laps, the 2007 World Champion had to start from position six. A clever strategy soon flushed Räikkönen into the group of the front runners. Toward the end of the race, he kept the current Champion Sebastian Vettel at bay and brilliantly defended his position. His team-mate Romain Grosjean finished the race in sixth place in his Lotus-Renault and thus rounded off a satisfactory team result.
In the drivers’ championship standings, Räikkönen climbed to second place, passing Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard in whose Ferrari dampers from ZF Friedrichshafen AG are used had to settle for fifth place in the Hungarian capital and in the overall standings is now trailing Räikkönen by just one point. Alonso’s Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa on finishing in eighth place managed the leap into the top ten as well. The Brazilian scored valuable Championship points for the seventh time this season.
