Formula 1: Alonso on podium with fantastic recovery
Thanks to a strong recovery at the Canadian Grand Prix Fernando Alonso continues to have a good base in the battle for the Formula 1 World Championship title. The Spaniard in whose Ferrari dampers by ZF Friedrichshafen AG are used had qualified for the seventh race of the season at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal as the sixth-fastest driver. In the race, the two-time World Champion made up position by position. Seven laps before the race ended, he attacked Lewis Hamilton and crossed the finish line as the runner-up. Thanks to his fourth podium finish this season Alonso moved up to second place in the standings. Alonso’s Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa in eighth place scored valuable Championship points as well.
Jean-Eric Vergne was overjoyed. In sixth place, the Frenchman whose team Toro Rosso-Ferrari relies on clutches from ZF Friedrichshafen AG took his so far best result in his 27th Formula 1 race.
