Formula 1: quiet end to turbulent Monaco classic

The safety car phases and a red flag: the sixth Formula 1 race of the season in Monaco had lots to offer. Fernando Alonso, who relies on dampers from ZF Friedrichshafen AG in his Ferrari, clinched sixth place in a turbulent race. As a result, the Spaniard remains in close contact to the overall leaders. In addition, Scuderia Ferrari strengthened its hold on second in the manufacturers’ standings.

Behind Alonso, Jean-Eric Vergne caused the biggest surprise. On the challenging street circuit, around which overtaking is almost impossible, the Frenchman started the Scuderia Toro Rosso from a good tenth place on the grid. During the race, the 23-year old worked his way up to eighth place and in doing so scored his best result of the season. ZF clutches are used in his Toro Rosso-Ferrari. Kimi Räikkönen completed the top ten. The Finn, who also relies on a ZF Friedrichshafen AG clutch in his Lotus-Renault, was an innocent victim in a collision while running in a promising position, but still fought back to finish in the points.
