Formula 1: Alonso triumphs at home round

With Fernando Alonso taking victory, a local hero has won the Spanish Grand Prix. In doing so, the former World Champion, whose Ferrari is equipped with dampers by ZF, after 2006 clinched his second win in the Catalonian metropolis. The Spaniard benefited from a good start and from P5 immediately advanced to third place. On the 13th lap, he took the lead, which he progressively extended up to the end of the race.

Alonso relegated Kimi Räikkönen, who relies on a clutch by ZF in his Lotus-Renault, to second place. Alonso’s Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa completed the podium. In the overall standings, Räikkönen is trailing the front runner by only four points, followed by Alonso with a 17-point gap in third place.

A respectable success was achieved by Daniel Ricciardo.The Australian, whose Toro Rosso Ferrari is equipped with a clutch by ZF as well, managed the leap onto position ten.
