DTM: BMW driver Bruno Spengler is 2012 DTM Champion

The DTM finale could not have been more thrilling than this. The question of who would become the 2012 DTM Champion was decided by the two favourites for the title, Bruno Spengler (BMW) and Gary Paffett (Mercedes-Benz), in a direct 42-lap duel at the Hockenheimring. In the end, a minimal advantage of 2.214 seconds ahead of Paffett was sufficient for Spengler to clinch his 13th DTM victory and win of his first DTM title. With that, Spengler intercepted Paffett, who had been leading since the first race, at the last moment and took an advantage of four points across the finish line.

BMW not only won the drivers’ title but also the manufacturers’ classification ahead of Audi and Mercedes-Benz plus, with Spengler’s team, Schnitzer, the teams’ classification.

The third driver to finish on the podium at the finale in front of 128,000 spectators (throughout the weekend) was BMW driver Augusto Farfus, who had won the last race at Valencia as well. The third in the drivers’ classification, Jamie Green, took fourth place. The best-placed Audi driver was Edoardo Mortara in position six.

All three premium manufacturers involved in the DTM, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, rely on clutch high-tech from ZF Friedrichshafen AG.
