Formula 1: Pérez captures podium in Canada

A surprisingly good performance was shown by Sergio Pérez at the Canadian Grand Prix. The Mexican whose Sauber-Ferrari is fitted with dampers from ZF Friedrichshafen AG advanced from 15th to third place at Montreal thanks to a one-stop strategy and thus – after Malaysia – celebrated his second podium finish this season. His team-mate Kamui Kobayashi in ninth place went home with two points.

Fernando Alonso was busy scoring points as well. The Spaniard whose Ferrari uses dampers from ZF Friedrichshafen AG as well was heading for a podium finish for a long time and only lost ground on the final laps due to heavily degrading tyres. In fifth place, he is now separated by two points from championship leader Lewis Hamilton, who was the seventh winner in the seventh race. On position ten, his team-mate Felipe Massa scored one championship point.
