Bruno Spengler takes first BMW win after DTM comeback

Pole position and victory – Bruno Spengler recorded a dream result for the DTM comeback brand BMW at the second race of the season at the Lausitzring. At the chequered flag the French-Canadian, who had changed from Mercedes-Benz to BMW over the winter, held a slim lead of 1.019 seconds over Hockenheim opening race winner Gary Paffett. BMW’s success was rounded off by third place for Augusto Farfus who became the first Brazilian in the DTM to take a podium position. BMW also celebrated its 50th DTM race victory; Roberto Ravaglia took the 49th at Hockenheim in 1992.

The three premium manufacturers Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, involved in the DTM all rely on clutch high-tech from ZF Friedrichshafen AG. Mattias Ekström was best driver of an Audi A5 DTM behind Jamie Green (Mercedes-Benz). Ralf Schumacher (Mercedes-Benz) clinched the final point for his tenth place finish.
