DTM: Audi driver Martin Tomczyk is 2011 DTM Champion
Martin Tomczyk has clinched an early win of the 2011 DTM title. The German driver from Rosenheim, Bavaria, took third place in his Audi A4 DTM at the penultimate round of the season at Valencia. His fiercest rival for the title battle – Bruno Spengler (Mercedes) – only finished in seventh place. Tomczyk will thus start into the season’s finale at Hockenheim three weeks from now with a 13-point advantage that is out of reach by any rival.
The ninth DTM round at Valencia not only became a triumphant race for Tomczyk. With Mattias Ekström as the winner, Filipe Albuquerque as the runner-up and Timo Scheider, Miguel Molina and Oliver Jarvis, who occupied positions four to six behind Tomczyk, the brand from Ingolstadt managed a 1-2-3-4-5-6 result. All Audi cars fielded in the DTM are equipped with clutch high-tech from ZF Friedrichshafen AG.
ZF has been involved in the DTM as an official supplier since the beginning of the 2011 season. This year Audi exclusively relies on the company’s clutches. From the 2012 season on, ZF will be the exclusive supplier of clutch systems to the three premium car manufacturers, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
