DTM: Audi one-two-three victory at Oschersleben

Audi dominated the eighth DTM round at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. As at the past race at Brands Hatch, the brand based in Ingolstadt achieved another one-two-three result in the flatlands around Magdeburg. The dominant driver of the wet race was Mattias Ekström, who celebrated his second victory of the season with a 42-second lead.

Martin Tomczyk clinched second place. After an unsuccessful qualifying session the driver from Rosenheim, Bavaria, advanced from position 14 on the grid to clinch a podium finish. Tomczyk also benefited from the retirements of rivals who had started in front of him, particularly the misfortune of title rival Bruno Spengler, who had to park his Mercedes due to a technical defect of the front suspension three laps before the chequered flag came down. Tomczyk thus extended his lead in the drivers’ standings to nine points before the last two races at Valencia and Hockenheim.

The third driver of an Audi A4 DTM on the podium was Edoardo Mortara. The Italian clinched his second consecutive podium position. Also finishing in the points were Audi drivers Mike Rockenfeller (6th place) and Miguel Molina (8th place), who had taken the pole position the day before. All Audi cars in the DTM are equipped with clutch high-tech from ZF Friedrichshafen AG.

ZF has been involved in the DTM as an official supplier since the beginning of the 2011 season. This year Audi exclusively relies on the company’s clutches. From the 2012 season on, ZF will be the exclusive supplier of clutch systems to the three premium car manufacturers, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
