DTM: Mattias Ekström wins for Audi at the Nürburgring

Mattias Ekström triumphed at the sixth 2011 DTM round at the Nürburgring. On seeing the chequered flag the Swede, who had also started from the pole position, had a lead of 5.533 seconds over the current leader of the standings, Bruno Spengler (Mercedes). Up until the penultimate lap Ekström’s team-mate Mike Rockenfeller was running in second place but a braking mistake at the end of the finish straight caused him to drop to third place. All Audi A4 cars in the DTM are equipped with clutch high-tech from ZF Sachs Race Engineering.

This victory caused Ekström to move forwards from seventh to fifth place in the drivers’ standings. Bruno Spengler continues to lead in front of Martin Tomczyk. Fourth (Timo Scheider) and fifth place (Martin Tomczyk) went to Audi drivers as well in front of a crowd of 86,500 spectators (throughout the weekend). Edoardo Mortara in seventh place also scored points for the Ingolstadt based brand.

ZF Sachs has been involved in the DTM as an official supplier since the beginning of the 2011 season. This year Audi exclusively relies on the company’s clutches. From the 2012 season on, ZF Sachs will be the exclusive supplier of clutch systems to the three premium car manufacturers, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
