Schweinfurt, 16. July 2011 – ZF and BMW are long-time partners in the supply of high-quality products in driveline and chassis for the O.E. production of BMW cars. Furthermore ZF Sachs has already been supporting the Formula BMW in global motor sports for several years and was Official Supplier of the BMW Sauber F1 Team. The collaboration with BMW will be intensified by a wider partnership and the status of an “Official Partner BMW Motorsport” within the scope of BMW’s engagement in DTM from 2012 on.
ZF Sachs Race Engineering as a 100% subsidary of ZF and a specialist for powertrain and suspension components in motorsports will equip all vehicles in DTM exclusively with clutch systems from 2012 on. “ZF Sachs won a tender to be the exclusive clutch supplier in the DTM,” explains Norbert Odendahl, Head of ZF Sachs Race Engineering. “We consider this decision to be recognition of our technological expertise and look forward to justifying the confidence placed in us in such a high-calibre race series.”
ZF Sachs Race Engineering technicians and engineers are already looking to the future of the DTM: they develop a standard race clutch from the Formula model range for the powerful touring car producing around 353 kW (480 hp). Its features: high-quality materials, pronounced longevity and thus cost-efficient operating conditions for every manufacturer. With standing starts and spectacular pit stops the module must repeatedly put its high-performance to the test. ZF Sachs Race Engineering was previously involved as sought-after supplier in numerous race and championship victories in DTM.
The responsible parties at BMW Motorsport emphasise the importance of the new cooperation as well: “BMW and ZF can already look back on a long partnership”, says Jens Marquardt, Director of BMW Motorsport. “This includes the development and production of BMW street cars as well as motorsports. The BMW customers will also benefit from the close collaboration between our DTM teams and ZF Sachs Race Engineering. The ZF group is one of the most successful automotive suppliers worldwide and is fully committed to motorsports. I am very much looking forward to this intensified partnership.”
