DTM: Second place for Edoardo Mortara at the Olympic Stadium
Dream weather in front of a dream audience of 54,000 spectators: The DTM offered a fascinating show event at Munich’s Olympic Stadium featuring high-class horsepower duels. On the tarmac that had been specifically laid at the sports arena for this event DTM leader Bruno Spengler (Mercedes) won the final shoot-out against Audi racer Edoardo Mortara, who had an accident in the narrow concrete channel in the last turn which prevented him from competing in the second final round. The Audi A4 DTM of the Italian Mortara, like those of his brand colleagues, is fitted with clutch high-tech from ZF Sachs Race Engineering.
In addition to the spectacular racing action on the near 1.2-kilometre circuit the spectators were treated to a colourful supporting programme featuring stunt shows, Formula 1 demo laps and many concerts. The show event in Munich is not part of the 2011 DTM classification, so there are no points awarded. The classification will continue three weeks from now at the sixth round to be held at the Nürburgring.
ZF Sachs has been involved in the DTM as an official supplier since the beginning of the 2011 season. This year Audi exclusively relies on the company’s clutches. From the 2012 season on, ZF Sachs will be the exclusive supplier of clutch systems to the three premium car manufacturers, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
