DTM: Mattias Ekström triumphs in Munich Olympic Stadium

Mattias Ekström wins the DTM horsepower spectacle in the Munich Olympic Stadium. The Audi driver won the final duel of two six-lap heats including mandatory pit stops from Jamie Green (Mercedes-Benz) by a margin of 1.476 seconds. Third place was awarded to the two losers in the semi-finals Bruno Spengler (BMW) and Gary Paffett (Mercedes-Benz). Throughout the course of the weekend a total of 45,000 spectators followed the sprint duels staged around the two 614 metre long tarmac tracks in Munich’s historic sports facility. Following the premiere in 2011, Munich hosted the DTM show event for the second time for which no points are awarded for the DTM championship.

The day before, Jamie Green/Ralf Schumacher (Mercedes-Benz) had won the newly introduced manufacturers’ team relay competition against Timo Scheider/Adrien Tambay – in this event the two drivers each share half of the race distance in the Olympic Stadium. In the process, the ‘baton’ was handed over in the pit lane.

The three premium manufacturers Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz involved in the DTM all rely on clutches from ZF Friedrichshafen AG.
